Yesterday my private devotions was on loving your neighbor.
I John 3:16 says: "Hereby perceive we the Love of God, because he laid down his life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren."
One author wrote, "Do not waste your time bothering whether you 'love' your neighbor; act as if you did. As soon as we do this, we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone, you will presently come to love them."
Our culture has redefined the word love. They tell us love is an emotion, God shows us that love is a choice. We show love through our actions.
The Bible uses several different words to describe love. One word is 'philos' or brotherly love. Like love between friends. The second word is 'agape' or high level of divine love.
Agape love does not love simply when you feel like it or when it is convenient, but because it is what God commands. There will be times in our lives when we don't feel like loving someone, but that is when agape love must take over!
Christ showed us this agape love when he died on the cross for our sins. He did not die for us simply because He had an emotion of love but because He made a choice to honor and obey His Father! He loved us so much that He gave!
How are showing your love to those around you? Love is action! Ask God to help you love others even if you do not feel like it!! I'll take this challenge will you?
Because Christ so loved!
